ABOUT FED4FIRE+ PROJECT
-
Fed4FIRE+
Fed4FIRE+ is an Integrating Project under the European Union’s Programme Horizon 2020, addressing the work programme topic Future Internet Research and Experimentation. It started in January 2017 and will run for 60 months, until the end of September 2021.
The Fed4FIRE+ project is the successor of the Fed4FIRE project. -
Fed4FIRE+ Open Calls
The Fed4FIRE+ project will build on this experience and organize series of Open Calls for experiments and testbeds and by using the Cascade Granting mechanism. During its life time of five years, the Fed4FIRE+ project will organize bi-annual open calls for various types of experimentation (large, medium, small) and experimental infrastructures. -
GDPR compliance in Fed4FIRE+
Fed4FIRE+ aims at establishing the largest federation of Next Generation Internet (NGI) testbeds by federating multiple testbeds. As any other European data controller and processor, Fed4FIRE+ partners must comply with the obligations of the European General Data Protection Regulation (‘GDPR’).
Although each testbed provider has appointed its own DPO, each experimenter that uses testbeds must also comply with the GDPR if he/she/it processes personal data during the experiment. In this context above, the experimenter is considered a controller under the GDPR, while the testbed provider its processor.

TESTBEDS’ FEEDBACKS FROM THE EXPERIMENTERS
-
Experimenters' feedback - Marco Boss | Taler Systems SA (LU)
One of the goals of the GNU Taler project is to provide a Free Software reference implementation for a privacy-preserving central bank digital currency. To asses the scalability of GNU Taler, performance experiments were carried out using Grid 5000 with support from the European Unions Fed4Fire+ programme. -
Experimenters' feedback - George Kontopoulous | Eight Bells Ltd. (CY)
The purpose of the 5G-OTTVPN experiment was comparing different VPN protocols and obtaining up-to-date data on the impact of encryption on LTE/5G network and user equipment. We have studied the encryption overhead on radio interface throughput, UE CPU utilization, and UE power consumption. -
Experimenters' feedback - David Bell | Blockchain 5.0 OÜ (EE)
ZVC is a radical cyber security technique to get rid of computer vulnerabilities using the Supra OS and ICOS softwares. -
Experimenters' feedback - Antonio González | It&people (ES)
It&people's FIRE4TALENT experiment consist in training neural networks to discover talent potential from performance evaluation data using powerful computing resources. -
Experimenters' feedback - Filip Wiśniewski | IronRobots.com (DE)
Video-Rooms is a WebRTC videoconferencing service developed as an answer to the need for secure online meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the experiment, IronRobots measured the capacity of our software in various scenarios, to ensure appropriate server configuration and minimize costs. -
Experimenters' feedback - Ali Raheman | MRI LTD (UK)
The experiment aims to validate the networking ability of the COVID device for GDPR-compliant human surveillance using always-on BLE-5 mesh-networking protocol for containing the rapid spread of infection by restricting the movement of the suspected/infected persons in high footfall spaces by alerting the surveillance system. -
Experimenters' feedback - Thanasis Tziouvaras | Cognitive Innovations (GR)
CoPro5G aims to provide a cooperative proactive resource management solution for 5G systems in the unlicensed spectrum. -
Experimenters' feedback - Daniele Miorandi | U-Hopper srl (IT)
GoldenOwl assesses the scalability of a DTL-based solution for managing education certificates. -
Experimenters' feedback - Adlin Ho | Blockchain 5.0 OÜ (EE)
The BLE5 meshnetworking experiment was successfully conducted using distributed Bluetooth nodes of w-iLab testbed that validated the networking capabilities of the XENO device using Bluetooth and in the absence of any other modes of communication. -
Experimenters' feedback - Matic Serc | ELMIBIT d.o.o. (SI)
In LoWIntEr, ELMIBIT d.o.o. tested an adapted LoRaWAN wireless irrigation control solution in an environment with high levels of Testbed-generated noise and interference, in order to evaluate system reliability in demanding environments. -
Experimenters' feedback - Murat Tulgaç | ISSD Electronics, Inc. (TR)
Urban-Scaled FCD aims to build a big data infrastructure for real-time data processing on an urban-scale and integrating the prepared algorithms into this infrastructure. -
Experimenters' feedback - Marlon Werkhausen | Fans & Fortune GmbH (DE)
In the experiment, Fans & Fortune tested their easy to use and affordable service for live multi-camera streaming of concerts on GetNextTo, by testing adaptive streaming over WiFi in a concert venue like environment, where hundreds of people with mobile phones are causing interferences.
