SUMMARY REMARKS & TESTBEDS

STAGE 1

Crowdbeamer is a patented solution that allows presenters in meetings and conferences to share their slides and multimedia in real-time with an audience, any place and any time. As an attendee, you can view the presentation and add notes directly to the slides as they are shown through a free app on your own device (mobile, notebook, and tablet). To serve as many clients as possible, Crowdbeamer uses WiFi in multicast mode. This choice of technology features many challenges, such as the interoperability with mobile devices from different manufacturers (Android/iOS/Windows). Therefore, it is crucial that the product is extensively tested during the different development cycles. To continue to stay innovative, new features will be added to the product, which in turn have to be tested to ensure good QoE by the user. In parallel to new development, new wireless standards (802.11ac/802.11ad) will be investigated to determine their feasibility for integration into the Crowdbeamer product. Crowdbeamer will also be used at many large-scale public events, where we want to gain insight on the status of the wireless medium during presentation sand the impact of the newly added features to the wireless spectrum and the user QoE. All tests will be conducted by making use of the w-iLab.t testing infrastructure at IMEC and its portable version.

STAGE 2

Crowdbeamer is a patented solution that allows presenters in meetings and conferences to show their slides and multimedia in real-time on the personal devices of the audience, any place and any time. All attendees can view the presentation on their smartphone, tablet or PC, and add notes directly to the slides as they are shown, just by using an app that is freely available. To serve as many clients as possible, Crowdbeamer uses WiFi in multicast mode. This choice of technology features many challenges, such as the interoperability with mobile devices from different manufacturers (Android/iOS/Windows/MacOS). These challenges will be evaluated using the wireless testbeds in FED4FIRE and it will be investigated how the impact of these challenges can be reduced on the overall performance of Crowdbeamer. To continue to stay innovative, new features, introducing unicast channels on top of the multicast mode, will be added to the product. This new concept has to be tested to ensure a good Quality of Experience (QoE)by the user, and assess the impact on the multicast video stream and the handling by a multitude of personal devices. In parallel to new development, new wireless standards (802.11ac/802.11ad) will be investigated to determine their feasibility for integration into the Crowdbeamer product. As Crowdbeamer will also be used at many large-scale public events, it is important to increase the wireless range of the device. By testing Crowdbeamer at real life events, we want to gain insight on the status of the wireless medium and the user QoE in such circumstances. All tests will be conducted by making use of the w-iLab.t testing infrastructure at IMEC and its portable version.
